I bow down before your awesome knowledge of truely strange shit.

SIGHT & SOUND is one of the world's great magazines of film criticism, so it's really cool that they requested you contribute to it.

Carl, I seem to remember that you've seen at least some of the Phynx before. True or false?

As for being asked to write for the BFI, I'm extremely "chuffed" about it, especially the bit where they changed my spelling of "humor" to a Danny Tanner-esque "humour".

Dick Clark, Xavier Cugat, Ed Sullivan, James Brown, Richard Pryor and COLONEL SANDERS are all in this movie?!

Did Lee H. Katzin, Bob Booker and George Foster all have blackmail material on them or what?

Well, yeah, but now you've got me desperately trying to remember the circumstances...

"Leatherman don't get nervous. Leatherman don't get nervous." My time is now!" Never seen The Phynx, Pat. But You Can't Stop The Music Is something time forgot but we never will. Listen to the Sound of the City, Magic Night, and of course When you come home from work and you want something cold to drink, cold to drink - Do the Milk Shake, the Milk Shake, Do the Shake!

"My goodness, do all the toll collectors here look like that?"

"Only the hot ones..."

Oh my good lord.

"The government of the United States is pleased to announce ... an orgy!"

Patrick, I always knew you had tastes off the beaten path, but this time I have to wonder if you haven't gone completely up a tree. Then again, maybe you were just doing what I did when I managed to snag a copy of "The Phynx" a long time ago: the only way to alleviate the pain was to INFLICT IT ON OTHER PEOPLE.

Afro-Americans, please. All cultfilms, cinematic oddities, and lost treasures of the silver screen must ultimately bow before the go-go-checked, surf-dancin' '60s East German teen beach party musical magic of _Heißer Sommer_. More than a mere musical teen beach romance, _Heißer Sommer_ represents perhaps the ultimate stage of socialism. All filmmaking worldwide should have been suspended upon the release of _Heißer Sommer_, for it will never be surpassed. Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels in Hell give it two hammer-and-sickles up!
