The joys of an upper repertory infection come in a big sticky bottle marked “Prometh with Codeine Cough Syrup.” Take double the dosage and you stop coughing and hacking and suddenly find yourself on the floor listening to The Libertines and the Monochrome Set. I feel better already, blissful actually but I’m not getting much of anything done.
On the way back from the docs, I stopped by Japan Town to poke around. Looks like Anime City is *finally* being sold at the Kinnokuniya bookstore there, this two days after I saw it at the Borders in Union Square. Along with some fashion mags which are inspring a sneaker frenzy, I also bought Wrong About Japan, which so far is reading like the Bizzaro World version of Anime City with Tomo as Peter Carey and me as his 12-year-old son. So far, I like our book better. We’ve got maps and color pics in ours, after all.
Looks like Tomo did an interview about Anime City recently for the Asahi Shimbun, “the Japanese most respectable news paper” as he puts it.
Meanwhile, back in the states we got a largeuly positive review at Active Anime, although we took a shot for not having enough "chapters about food." Ok, "TeelaZain," I promise the next book will reveal where to find deep-fried whale and BBQ dog, just for you.
Couldn't find Anime City in L.A. But then there's nothing left to look for in L.A. nowadays. (OTOH, at least I might finally get to see Otomo hosting Steamboy...) Anyway, if all else fails, I'll probably get it on Amazon.
