I’m moving to Tokyo in June.
There. I’ve said it.
I’ve already got a place to stay in Mitaka. I’ll be working on a pair of books, trying to freelance as much as I can, and studying Japanese among other things.
Maybe I’ll come back. Maybe I won’t. It’s all kind of a gamble, but the alternative is a slow death by boredom here in the states.
Now all I have to do is summon up the engery to box up my life and move.
I don't blame you. Just don't turn into that gaijin in Otaku No Video.

Well, contgratulations! Sounds like a solid career move to me -- gets you right in the thick of things. (If I'm remembering this right, Oshii keeps an apartment in Mitaka for when he's working during the week -- be sure to say hi to him for me if you see him around!)

I haven't forgotten that you took a first in Oriental Languages at Cambridge.

And Carl, the O levels in Classical Languages... can you see them, Carl? Can you?

I just read this entire blog, backwards. You are a very interesting and hilarious writer. It has made me crave Yebisu tallboys, though... and want to move there too. If only I had some kind of skill. ;O lol
