I find that a true measurement of a konbini's strength is the selection of nikuman rolls during the winter and the turnover of Calpis beverages. A good convenience store will stock the pork buns early in the fall with a wide selection and hold onto the good Calpis-juice concoctions for a longer time.

Good konbini? Sunkus, Family Mart, the occassional 7-11.

Bad konbini? Hot Spar, Lawson's, every other 7-11.

I suppose there's some sort of correlation between porn and Calpis then.
