Amazing. My mind is officially blown. I love that stuff, I do. I wish the studios had filmed/taped these events so they could be seen, it would have made for killer DVD extras.

Based on the way 'Fujiko' is dressed, I'm guessing that Lupin III event was for the second series. Obviously a color pic would have make it more clear. ;)

There's a brief sequence from an early 70s Kamen Rider live show at Korakuen included in the "Our Kamen Rider" special from the '80s, on DVD, etc, complete with tin foil walls, stuffed pandas, and crazy colored gel lighting. But, yeah, it takes place indoors in a theater. The majority of these attraction shows happened outdoors on the top of department stores, at amusement parks, and so on.

Note to the Kichijoji contingent (Matt, Aceface, etc): I'd like to think that last Volton shot was taken on that faux Hollywood Bowl stage in Inokashira koen where everyone sits and drinks beer after dark.

Kigurumi will always be a bit creepy.

Too bad these things seem to have gone out of style though. Would make good con fodder.

Never fear! They still have attraction shows in Japan and probably will as long as Toei keeps pumping out the Kamen Rider and Sentai.

The hanayashiki amusement park in Asakusa even has their own troupe of faux-Power Rangers to entertain the kiddies with, avoiding psychopathic licensing fees in the process.

I have some really shiny color pics and a pull out poster of Gaiking from a terebi mgazine. I'll try and find them. If I recall the Gaiking is like 8-10 feet tall..

Call me a spoilsport, but I just can't get excited about live attraction shows based on live-action programs. What's the big deal? Kamen Rider on stage probably doesn't look terribly different from Kamen Rider on a TV screen.

But anything based on a 2-D anime? Sign me the hell up for life!!!

There was a live attraction for Yamato at some theme park somewhere, but they were just mannequins dressed up in uniforms. Not quite as eye-popping as a REAL goddamn Mazinger Z throwing it down before your eyes.

Now I know there will never be a time machine, otherwise, we would all be in those photos.

And it is by this fearsome history, that dangerous practice known as "KIGURUMI" was born.

HOW DID THEY GET PHOTOGRAPHS OF MY CRAZY TOO MUCH NYQUIL DREAMS???

Is "Rick Hunter" small, or did they get Giant Baba to wear the Valkyrie suit?

It sorta reminds me...

The way I see the shape of the stage,Guess not.

Besides all these shows are always intended to attract kids(and their parents)to either department or amusement park,so it can't be Ino park.

I think I'll have some sleepless nights thinking about what sort of story kids were told in that Sayla Mass taken away by Zion dudes.
